This modern day fairytale brings together a handsome Irish lad with a gorgeous American lass in one of Ireland’s most stunning of settings, incorporating lots of incredible thoughtful details and a bit of DIY from a super talented bride! We had the pleasure of helping Lisa and Ronan design and plan their dream castle wedding day at one of our favorite venues, Luttrellstown Castle. Lisa’s fabulous New York taste was evident throughout the day: she custom designed the invitation suite and all of the stationary for the day herself, and we worked closely together conceptualizing the right personal touches and accent decor to match the vibe they wanted for their guests. The color palette was a dreamy mix of dusty rose and Irish greenery, exquisitely delicate that precisely drew on the tone of Ireland in early October that set perfectly against the castle and church. Gorgeous couple, lots of laughs and smiles, and a great time had by all as evidenced through the photos beautifully captured by the uber-talented Studio Brown . The traditional Catholic ceremony was held at a nearby church. Lisa’s mom surprised the couple with adding a stunning flower arch arrangement to adorn the entrance. It was important to the couple to honor their shared faith, and share that with their family and friends. Special details included more custom created signs and programs (designed and produced by Lisa herself!).
Lisa and Ronan together with their friends and family returned back to the castle for the reception. The autumn leaves only added to the incredible landscape: shades of pinks and yellows dipping into darker burgundy, rust, and gold accented by Irish greens was a feast for the photos. The cocktail and reception featured a Curran Cocktail, a play on their names. Lisa again designed and produced the custom stationary for the reception, including the custom menu. We kept the pink theme with a rich rose gold pink velvet napkin and used traditional style table linens. The cake took heavy inspiration from Lisa’s bouquet. And each guest got a little treat to take home at the table to enjoy later in the night.
Swiping Right To Find True Love
Lisa and Ronan – the ever so modern couple – met on Tinder! Irish native Ronan had been living in New York for 18 months on contract with work when his path crossed with Lisa’s. After getting to know each other the rest is history! They took a trip to Greece where Ronan found the perfect chance to propose. “We had been traveling in Italy and Greece around his birthday,” recalls Lisa. “I had a little bit of a feeling but didn’t see any clues. When we got to Greece, we were planning on going to dinner to celebrate Ronan’s birthday. Before we left, we were on the balcony overlooking the caldera and that’s when he proposed!”
A Castle Wedding At “Home”
Having a destination wedding in Ireland was a bit of a homecoming for Ronan and Lisa. They had made the decision to stay in New York for work, so with Ronan being an Irish native and them visiting so often, that made hosting a destination wedding for them all the more important. “We were so happy to share with our friends and family the amazing experiences in Ireland!” they said. Luttrellstown Castle with its proximity to Dublin and availability for private hire was the perfect choice for them.
Pink Tones for an Early Autumn Wedding
Lisa’s custom color palette was created around dusty rose — a beautiful hue that can tone towards warm or cool palettes and that managed to bring out the still-vibrant greenery of Ireland’s early autumnal season. Sylvia of Bella Botanica created the most incredible bouquets and floral decor for the event. A crowning detail was the sweet floral arch that greeted guests at the church! Everyone looked fantastic, including Lisa who shown in her Matthew Christopher gown and Ronan in his Collar & Cuff suit. The bridesmaids took on the dusty rose hue within their dresses, paired perfectly with soft blush and euclayptus tones in their bouquets.
A lot of this wedding was made spectacular with the thoughtful personal details. Lisa created all of the stationary for the event herself, including the invitation suite, table numbers, thank you tags, and more. They actually had two cakes for the event — a sweet 3 tier featuring different flavors on each layer (chocolate/coffee, lemon, chocolate praline) as well as a savory cheese cake — multiple cheese wheels towered into a cake served with accouterments. Lisa and Ronan wanted to honor their family and friends who couldn’t make it to the day, so they decorated with framed photos throughout the reception space. We love that touch. Guest favors included little bottles of Baileys and Jameson for their guests to enjoy later that night or next day.
Favorite parts of the day included their traditional Catholic ceremony and saying their vows to each other in front of their loved ones, and the little moments they snuck alone together: a little time in the room upstairs before making their grand entrance to the reception — they practiced their dance moves and just had a moment to laugh and be together, and the quiet time in the car together as they drove back to the castle from the church.
A Piece of Advice
“Get things done early!! We waited too long on a lot of things and even though of course it eventually got done, we could have done a few things just a little bit earlier!”
